Chemaine Hurtado

USDF Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalist
USDF Gold, Silver, and Bronze Freestyle Bars Recipient
"My first horse memory is watching my sister Jennifer's lessons on a horse named Flash. I was about six years old and would sit on the rail of the arena watching her lesson, longing to ride that amazing horse. It wasn't until I was nine or ten years old that I started taking lessons at my best friend Jennifer Stetter's ranch. Today she is Jennifer Nunes, an excellent amateur rider at my barn." - Chemaine Hurtado

Chemaine Hurtado, trainer and owner of Symphony Dressage Stables, spent her early years riding and training  her own horses before eventually taking lessons with the renowned Hilda Gurney. Shortly thereafter, Chemaine began working for Hilda as groom, assistant trainer, and sometimes manager. Chemaine accompanied Hilda to the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain as Hilda's groom and assistant. Chemaine later worked as an assistant for Ludger Thole before taking on her own list of clients.

In 2015, Chemaine was asked to be a demonstration rider for Charles de Kunffy at the Western States Horse Expo in Pomona, California. While there, Chris Cox, a well known western trainer, asked Chemaine to perform in his demonstration as well. Visit this link to see their performance. In 2016, Chemaine was invited to be the dressage clinician at the Western States Horse Expo in both Pomona and Sacramento. The partnership with Western States Horse Expo was so successful that in 2017, she was again asked to return as the dressage clinician for the Sacramento Expo.

Chemaine's list of accomplishments speaks to her dedication and vast knowledge. She holds her Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals from USDF as well as her Gold, Silver, and Bronze Musical Freestyle Bars, a feat very few have accomplished. She has earned numerous national placings for her freestyles as well as many championships at nearly all levels.

To complement her training and lesson program, Chemaine has developed exercises on the yoga ball to show students how to better influence the horse with the rider's weight and seat aids. She has created a video series, Yoga Ball Balanced Dressage, which is available on her YouTube channel, seen here.
With her ready smile and infectious laugh, Chemaine can be found doing a lot more than riding and training. She also volunteers her time and energy throughout the Tehachapi area, supports her students at shows, and spends quality time with her family and their menagerie of pets. The miniature horse, Poof, Chloe the pig, several dogs, a cat, chickens, ducks, and a snake make perfect sense when added to Chemaine's already busy life.
